The Islamic Community in Kurdistan ( Kurdish کۆمهلی ئیسلامی له کوردستان Komelî Îslamî le Kurdistan ) is an Islamic party in northern Iraq that split from the Islamic Unity Movement Kurdistan in May 2001 . The party is led by Mulla Ali Bapir , a former member of the Islamic Movement in Kurdistan . The party is based in Kurmal and surrounding areas on the border with Iran .
It was considered moderate at least until the American attack in March 2003, but it is said to have had connections with the radical group Ansar al-Islam , which it denied in a statement on October 11, 2004. In a 2003 interview, Bapir said the Islamic Group in Kurdistan seeks fellowship with all Islamic, Salafist and Sunni groups.
The party did not participate in the Democratic Patriotic Alliance of Kurdistan in the 2005 elections, but ran independently. She received 60,000 votes (0.7%) and two seats in the Iraqi parliament . After the elections, the party participated in the Kurdish Alliance faction in the National Assembly. In the 2010 parliamentary elections , the party again won two seats. She won 3 seats in the 2014 election .
