August Friedrich Bloch , born as Abraham Bloch (born November 4, 1780 or 1781 in Teplitz , † May 10, 1866 in Berlin ) was a German merchant and president of the Prussian maritime trade.

Life

As a merchant, August Friedrich Bloch was successful in the trade in goods between Königsberg (Prussia) and Berlin, and went bankrupt from 1810 due to government intervention with retroactive effect in pricing and calculation. He was therefore repeatedly financially supported by the Prussian state treasury until 1818. When his appeal against the interference was finally rejected by the courts, he became an agent of the Prussian Ministry of the Treasury through the mediation of Karl August von Hardenberg . On further employment by the Prussian financial politician Christian (von) Rother , he later also became an agent of the Prussian debt administration as well as theMaritime trading company . From 1830 to 1847 he was still an agent for the Schickler family . In 1848 he was appointed President of the Maritime Trade as Rother's successor and held this position until 1854. During his term of office the disinvestment of a large part of the industrial division of the maritime trade, which was stabilized by this liquidity improvement and turned into a pure banking and trading company. This restructuring , initiated in 1845, combined with the subsequent dismantling of goods trading activities, was of fundamental importance for its later development into the Prussian State Bank. His successor as president of the maritime trade was Otto von Camphausen .
