Ali Bayramoğlu

Ali Bayramoğlu (* 1956 in Gelibolu ) is a Turkish author and columnist .

Life

Bayramoğlu's mother came from Gelibolu, the father from Thrace. The family had two other sons. The father was an ophthalmologist and when Bayramoğlu was five years old, the family moved to İskenderun . There he attended elementary and middle school and high school. Bayramoğlu then studied political science in Grenoble from 1973, returned to Turkey in 1979 and completed a master's degree at the economics faculty of İstanbul Üniversitesi in 1982 . Bayramoğlu received his doctorate in 1985. Until 1999 he taught in the Department of Public Administration at the Marmara Üniversitesi , made translations and gave French lessons at the grammar school. In 1999 he left university and wrote for Tempo magazine as a journalist. Furthermore, Bayramoğlu worked as a columnist for various daily newspapers, including the Sabah and the Yeni Şafak.

Abroad, among other things, he became known to the Armenians for his commitment to apologizing for Turkey . His campaign to recognize the Armenian genocide was called Özür Diliyorum . In April 2013, Bayramoğlu was appointed by then Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to a commission called the “Council of Wise Men” , which was supposed to support civil society in the peaceful end to the conflict with the Kurdish PKK , which was ultimately ineffective.

Bayramoğlu was a columnist for the AKP- affiliated daily Yeni Şafak for 15 years . In September 2016 he left this job because of "ongoing problems with the editorial team".
