Ali Sayyād Schirāzi (also Ali Sayad Shirazi , Persian علی صیاد شیرازی Ali Seyyād Schirazi , DMG ʿAlī Ṣaiyād Šīrāzī ; * May 13, 1944 in Kabud Gonbad, Tehran Province , Iran ; † April 10, 1999 in Tehran ) was Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces .

During the Iran-Iraq war , Shirazi rose to become one of the highest-ranking generals in Iran . After a Lockheed C-130 of the Iranian Air Force crashed on the return flight from the front with the entire army command on September 29, 1981 , the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini appointed him commander of the land forces of the Iranian army. He died in 1999 in an attack believed to have been committed by the People's Mujahedin .
