Demography of Eritrea
The demographic data of Eritrea cannot be precisely determined because the Eritrean government uses it politically to represent a balance, especially between the religions.
Eritreans form a cultural unit together with the inhabitants of Ethiopia , see Habesha . Eritrea has about 6.75 million inhabitants. Numerous refugees have been leaving the country for years and there are repeated famines. For these reasons the numbers can only be estimated.
Total population
The number of inhabitants is not given uniformly in different sources. For the year 2017 the population is given by the United Nations as 5.1 million, given by the CIA World Factbook as 5.9 million and by Statista as 6.7 million.
