Alicja Gescinska

Alicja Anna Gescinska (* 1981 in Warsaw ) is a Polish - Belgian philosopher and researcher at Princeton University .

Life

Gescinska writes essays, editorials, reviews and conducts interviews for various Belgian and Dutch publications. In 2011 her book “ De verovering van de vrijheid ” (“ The Conquest of Freedom ”) was published. It was named the best non-fiction book from 2011 to 2012 by deMens.nu and has been nominated for several literary prizes.

She earned a PhD in philosophy with a thesis on the philosophy of Max Scheler and Karol Wojtyla .

The central themes of her work are the conception of freedom and the philosophical meaning of the term “person”. In some of her writings she emphasizes the moral and social importance of the humanities and the arts. She is co-author of the book Giving Europe a Soul and co-author of a monograph on Leszek Kołakowski .
