Alien Hand Syndrome is an alternative rock band by the Austrian artist and multi-instrumentalist Clemens Engert, named after the neurological disorder Alien Hand Syndrome (AHS).

history

Alien Hand Syndrome was launched in autumn 2007 by Clemens Engert as a home studio solo project - the first songs from this phase can be found on the self-produced 6-track EP The Evil And The Lovelorn (2008). In 2009, another EP was released, this time limited to 3 tracks, under the name The Evil And The Lovelorn , which was produced much better than its predecessor and got the first positive feedback in Austrian and German media. In October 2011, Engert finally released his first LP under the title The Sincere and the Cryptic - largely positive reactions in the music media were the result. Alien Hand Syndrome's album Slumber was released in September 2013 , which was rated even more positively by the majority of critics than its predecessor. In November 2018, Alien Hand Syndrome's EP "Tales Of Waking" was released, for which Engert collaborated with former Muse producer Paul Reeve.

Style and concept

The spectrum of music ranges from alternative rock to post-punk and post-rock to classical piano / cello arrangements. A dark, melancholy mood permeates all previous releases of the project. Overall, Alien Hand Syndrome relies less on the usual song structures, but rather focuses on the intensity of the emotional worlds conveyed, be it feelings of insecurity, alienation, fear, love, hope or simply irrepressible anger. Alien Hand Syndrome sees itself as a total work of art that should include a wide variety of audio-visual forms of art (live video projections, performance art , video clips as an art form, creative photo sessions, etc.).
