Alienbrain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alienbrain is a version control system for mixed projects . In contrast to classic version control systems, the system was designed from the outset for versioning binary files and offers, for example, an image preview for 2D and 3D image formats.

Alienbrain comes from computer game development where the versioning of media data , so-called assets, has been an issue for a long time. Versioning these large files was not possible for a long time with classic version control systems such as CVS and VSS . In the meantime, the capabilities of the system have also been expanded in the direction of classic version control and also offer options such as branching and change sets . The main area of application is still 2D / 3D graphics and mixed data-heavy projects such as games and animated films.

The development company NXN Software GmbH, founded in 1997 and based in Munich , was bought by Avid in 2004 . Customers include Pixar Animation Studios and Electronic Arts .
