Alina Goreac

Alina Goreac (born September 28, 1952 in Lugoj ) is a former Romanian gymnast .

She practiced swimming and ballet until she started gymnastics in Lugoj. In 1969 Goreac moved to Dinamo Bucharest in the capital and was a member of the national squad from 1969 to 1979.

In 1970 Goreac took part in the world championships for the first time and reached fifth place with the Romanian gymnastics team in Ljubljana. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, she was sixth with the team.

At the European Championships in 1973 in London Goreac was able to win three medals. She was runner-up on the balance beam and third on the uneven bars and on the floor. In addition, she reached fourth place in the all-around competition, just behind Kerstin Gerschau . At the 1974 World Gymnastics Championships Goreac missed the medal ranks. She was fourth with the team and in the jump and fifth on the balance beam.

In 1975 Goreac won bronze twice at the European Championships , on the balance beam, tied on points with Soviet gymnast Nelli Kim , as well as in the jump. At the Universiade 1977 she won the title in the all-around and on the balance beam and bronze on the balance beam.

After her competitive sports career, Goreac was active as a referee but mainly as a trainer until 2011, first at CS Viitorul and from 1986 at Steaua Bucharest. In 2007 she made her hometown of Lugoj an honorary citizen.
