Alistair Ian Campbell (born February 15, 1959 in Birmingham ) is a British reggae musician with a penchant for dub .
Live and act
Ali Campbell grew up in Birmingham, attended St. Luke's Junior School and the Moseley Road School of Art . He bought his first musical instruments with £ 4,000 in compensation awarded to him after a bar fight on his 17th birthday. In 1978 he formed a band with school friends after having been unemployed for three years. According to an unemployment benefit form, it was called UB40 . As a solo artist he made his debut in the summer of 1995 with the album "Big Love" and the releases "That Look In Your Eye" and "Let Your Yeah Be Yeah". With his daughter Kibibi he recorded a cover version of " Somethin 'Stupid " in December 1995 , originally by Carson [Parks] And Gaile [Foote] (1966, USA, Kapp Records).
In 2007 the album Running Free was released and in January 2008 he announced his separation from UB40, as he wants to concentrate on his solo career in the future. Since his departure, the Flying High albums have been released in 2009 and Great British Songs 2010, which consists of cover versions of various British singers and bands .
Campbell sings, plays guitar and drums . He has four children from a divorced marriage and two children from his relationship with his current partner.
