Alkynic acids (also known as alkynates, alkynates or alkynecarboxylic acids ) are carboxylic acids which are built up from an alkynyl radical and a carboxy group (-COOH). Alkynoic acids have the general formula C n H 2 n −3 COOH ( or n = 0, 1, 2, 3,…). By definition, an alkynyl radical has neither aliphatic nor aromatic double bonds nor other heteroatoms . The simplest representative is propiolic acid .
