Allan Robert Bell (born June 20, 1947 on the Isle of Man ) is a British politician and a member of the House of Keys from 1984 to 2016 . From 2011 to 2016 he was Chief Minister of the Isle of Man.

Life

Allan Bell was born on the Isle of Man and attended Ramsay Grammar School. Prior to his political career, he worked in banking, accounting and retail. Bell has lived with his partner for over 21 years.

In 1976 Bell ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the House of Keys, the lower house of the Isle of Man's Parliament. From 1984, when he was first elected in a by-election, until 2016, he was one of Ramsey's two elected representatives in the House of Keys.

From 1986 to 2016 he was a member of the government. He held the following cabinet positions: 1986–1990 Minister for Tourism and Transport, 1990–1994 Minister for Tourism, Leisure and Transport, 1991–1996 Minister of Industry, 1996–2001 Minister of the Interior, 2001–2010 Minister of Finance and finally 2010–2011 Minister for Economic Development.

After the resignation of Chief Minister Tony Brown , Bell was elected as his successor on October 11, 2011. Bell received 27 votes, while his opponent Peter Karran, chairman of the Liberal Vannin Party, received three votes.
