Allen Edward Barrow

Allen Edward Barrow (born January 22, 1914 in Okemah , Oklahoma , †  February 26, 1979 ) was an American lawyer . After his appointment by President John F. Kennedy , he served as a federal judge in the federal district court for the northern district of Oklahoma from 1962 until his death in 1979 .

Career

Allen Barrow attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman after graduating from school , where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1937 . This was followed in 1942 with a Bachelor of Laws at Southeastern State College in Durant . He then served in the US Army during World War II , which he left in 1946 with the rank of major . He then practiced as a lawyer in Tulsa until 1951 . He resumed this activity in 1954 after he had held the post of Assistant Attorney General for the Southwestern Power Administration at the Oklahoma State Department of the Interior . He also temporarily held the position of chief legal officer. He was a member of the Democratic Party , but never held a political office.

On July 18, 1962, Barrow was appointed by President Kennedy to succeed Royce H. Savage as a judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma . After confirmation by the US Senate on August 1 of the same year, he was able to take office the next day. From 1962 to 1979 he was Chief Judge Chairman of this federal court . Allen Barrow died on February 26, 1979. His seat fell to James O. Ellison ; H. Dale Cook took over the presidency of the court .
