The Allen Rocks are a small rock formation on the Antarctic Ross Island . They tower 2.2 miles east-northeast of Slattery Peak in the Kyle Hills . The formation includes a Nunatak in the form of the letter A . With the exception of its south side, the Nunatak is flanked by a ridge.
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the formation in 2000 after Robert J. Allen Jr., a cartographer specializing in Antarctica between 1950 and 1979 and later advisor to the United States Geological Survey , who played a key role in the creation of the map series between 1950 and 2000 Survey to Antarctica was involved.
