The Kyle Hills are a striking group of volcanic cones , hills , ridges and peaks that occupy the eastern part of Antarctic Ross Island between Mount Terror and Cape Crozier . The east-west extension of the mountain is 13 km. From Cape Crozier at sea level they rise to Mount McIntosh in the west at about 2600  m . The local relief height between the individual formations is about 200 m.

The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the mountain in 2000 by the New Zealand geochemist Philip Raymond Kyle, professor at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro , among others, from 1969 to 2000 at 28 fieldwork campaigns of the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program , the National Science Foundation and the United States Antarctic Program was involved.
