General Association of the Disabled in Germany

The General Disabled Association in Germany e. V. (ABiD e.V.) is a partisan, religious, ethnic and ideological independent self-help association , with the purpose of promoting self-determination and help for the disabled as well as the public and political representation of people with disabilities and those affected.

Goals and story

The association is an association of disabled people, their relatives and friends , regardless of the type of disability. It consists of a federal association based in Berlin and several regional associations, which in turn are divided into local associations. Any natural or legal person can become a full member.

The patron of the General Disabled Association is Sabine Bergmann-Pohl (former Federal Minister) and the chairman was Ilja Seifert , who succeeded Detlef Eckert . At the association day in April 2018, Marcus Graubner was elected as the new chairman of the General Disability Association in Germany. Anna Carina Woitschack has been the ABiD ambassador since July 2018.

The General Disabled Persons Association is a member of the German Disability Council (DBR), the German Paritätischen Wohlfahrtsverband (DPWV), the national coordination office "Tourism for All" e. V. (NatKo), the German Association for Public and Private Welfare (DV) and Very Special Arts (VSA).

The association was founded in 1990 during the GDR era and later renamed. He is a founding member of the German Disability Council (DBR) and has worked on the drafts for the Anti-Discrimination Act (ADG - now AGG).
