General house owners association in Leipzig

The General House Owners Association in Leipzig was an association of house owners founded in Leipzig in 1878 , as they emerged in numerous cities of the German Empire around this time .

The goals of the association were, among other things, the promotion of property formation and the protection of real estate in material and legal form, especially for "small" homeowners. This also included promoting the connection between tenants and landlords. For example, honorary certificates were awarded for long-term tenancies.

The association rapidly developed into one of the largest and most economically vital associations in the Reich. In 1902 he founded a savings and loan fund for Hausbesitzer eGmbH , from which the Leipziger Hausbesitzer-Bank emerged in 1910 and which from 1923 operated as Bank für Handel und Grundbesitz AG . The association also ran its own property management company. From 1881 the monthly papers for homeowners appeared with a circulation of up to 100,000 and thus became the club's newspaper with the highest circulation for landowners.

After the end of the Second World War , the associations that existed in the Third Reich were banned in the Soviet occupation zone , including the house owners association. It was disbanded and expropriated on SMAD's orders, along with its facilities. In the years that followed in the GDR, private property was at best tolerated, but usually undermined economically.

During the fall of the Wall in March 1990, the House, Apartment and Landowners Association Leipzig und Umgebung e. V. , which now also appears under the short name Haus & Grund Leipzig . Haus & Grund Leipzig is a member of the State Association of Saxony and the Federal Association of Haus & Grund .

Haus & Grund has been awarding the Leipzig Real Estate Prize since 2015.
