Allophycocyanin from Gloeobacter violaceus .

Allophycocyanin is a pigment that is involved in the photosynthesis of cyanobacteria and red algae and belongs to the phycobilins .

This protein has a molecular mass of around 80  kDa . Coupled to an antibody , it is one of the brightest fluorescent dyes that is used for FACS analysis and is also used for the fluorescence microscopic detection of specific antigens . It is excited by a HeNe laser at 633 nm and emits light with a wavelength of 680 nm.
