plant

Katsu's novels are generally cited for the quality of the narrative and the ability to depict supernatural scenery in an immediate and realistic manner ("makes the supernatural seem possible" - Publishers Weekly and "renews a genre [...] tragedy without [. ..] the hyperbole of high romance "- Locus Magazine). The Taker , the first novel in a trilogy, takes place in the past, but is framed by a narrative in the present.

The Taker trilogy can be seen as yet another literary interpretation of Faust 's theme and as a prime example of storytelling within stories. The books tell the story of a young woman who was given eternal life but viewed this condition as punishment for evil deeds she had committed in life and to which she must now return until the end of time.
