The Alma Mater Europaea , or AMEU for short , is a funding initiative founded in 2010 by the European Academy of Sciences and Arts based in Salzburg .

The aim of Alma Mater Europaea is to promote leaders and elites in the fields of education, culture, business, law, health, nutrition and the environment. With a network of universities and colleges in European countries, European traditions and cultural diversity are to be conveyed in study and course programs. The combination of science, practice and interculturality is seen as essential leadership skills in order to be able to act successfully in the complex world of globalization.

Alma Mater Europaea was founded in 2010 by Stefan Brunnhuber (University of Leipzig), Peter Graf (University of Osnabrück), Felix Unger (University of Salzburg) and Werner Weidenfeld (LMU Munich). The founding conference took place in 2011 in Munich with Rainer von Aufschnaiter, Helmut Reinalter, Michael von Hauff, Peter A. Wilderer, Ludwig Tavernier, Peter Graf, Joseph Straus, Werner Weidenfeld, Wolf. D. Hartmann, Brigitte Tag, Stefan Brunnhuber, Felix Unger and Paul Kirchhof.

The President of the Alma Mater Europaea is Felix Unger ; he is supported by the Vice Presidents Wilfried Bergmann and Ludvik Toplak . The rectorate is held by Werner Weidenfeld .
