Alperen

Alperen is a Turkish male given name meaning "hero" or "courageous person". The name is made up of the components alp ("warrior" or "hero") and the word eren , the Turkish name for a saint . Warrior monks who took part in jihad originally called the Turks alp gazi . After the spread of Sufism , especially in the early Ottoman period, these warlike dervishes were called alperen . Today, alperen is an honorable name within the Ülkücü movement or an honorable name for people to whom one takes an example, with the approximate meaning "hero". The youth associations of the Büyük Birlik Partisi call themselves, for example, Alperen Ocakları , Alperen clubs.
