Alpetragius is an impact crater on the front of the moon to the east of Mare Nubium , northwest of Arzachel crater and east of Lassell . The crater is heavily eroded and has a large and extensive central mountain .
The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Arab astronomer Nur ad-Din al-Bitrudschi (Latinized Alpetragius ).
