Alphonse Combes

Alphonse Pierre Charles Combes (born November 18, 1854 in Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort , † 1907 ) was a French chemist.

He was a grandson of Charles Combes . Combes studied from 1874 at the École polytechnique and then from 1877 at the École des mines . He was a professor of industrial chemistry at the École municipale de physique et de chimie de Paris.

He is the namesake of the Combes quinoline synthesis , which he described in 1888.

Combes was a member of the Société française de physique.
