Alsnö hus
Alsnö hus is the ruin of a royal palace from the Middle Ages on the island of Adelsön in Mälaren , northwest of Stockholm . Alsnö hus is part of Hovgården , which, together with neighboring Birka, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993 .
history
The name is first mentioned in writing in 1200 as "mansionem regiam Alsnu" , that is, as a "house of unusual size" . Around 1270 Magnus Ladulås had this building replaced with a stately brick summer palace . According to certain sources, Magnus Ladulå's brother, Valdemar Birgersson , was the original builder, but Magnus quickly took over the project.
On Alsnö hus, Magnus Ladulås adopted the Alsnö statute in 1279, which introduced the nobility to Sweden .
The end of Aslnö hus
Already at the end of the 14th century, Alsnö hus came to an end. The palace may have been sacked by the brothers Vitalien , who were raging in the Baltic Sea region at the time. The excavations carried out between 1916 and 1918 showed that fighting had taken place; it was found that the hill was littered with crossbow arrowheads. Today there are only small remains of the foundation walls on a hill northeast of the Adelsö church.
