Alt St. Pankratius is the former Roman Catholic parish church in Cologne-Worringen . Today it is used as a residential building.

history

In 1153, Friedrich I certified the acquisition of the Vogtei of Worringen for the Archbishop of Cologne, Arnold II von Wied . The Worring Church was not mentioned in the document. It was first mentioned in the Liber valoris after 1300. The right of collation lay with the Cologne cathedral provost.

Art historians Paul Clemen and Becker-Huberti / Menne put the west tower that still exists today as a Romanesque building , while the single-nave nave with polygonal closed choir, which is only preserved in its core, is clearly from a Gothic building phase. Dagmar Hötzel sees the construction of the tower in its alternation of basalt and brick as a correspondence of the neighboring Feste Zons from 1373/80. The construction of the upper floors, made entirely of brick, dates back to around 1484 after the church was damaged in the Neuss War in 1474 . Thus the biforic windows would not have been executed in Romanesque, but in the late Gothic historicizing in Romanesque forms. When the church was surveyed in 1757, the north aisle was not mentioned, so it must have been built later.

The sacred building was decommissioned in 1838 when a new parish church, consecrated to St. Pankratius , was built further west in Worringen . The old parish church burned down on November 6, 1859 and was then converted into a school building, with the north aisle being laid down. Today it serves as a residential building with extensions. The buttresses on the north side and single stepped on the south side have been preserved on the nave. The choir, closing with three octagonal sides, has two-part buttresses.
