Altar organ of the Ludwigskirche in Saarbrücken

The altar organ is almost exclusively Protestant churches existing installation type of organ . The church organ is set up above or behind the altar on a gallery and is thus in the direct field of vision of the congregation. The sound comes down to the audience from the front instead of from behind. In Protestant churches , this installation above the altar demonstrates the importance of the instrument and church music for church services (see Wiesbaden program ).

Famous churches with altar organs are the Frauenkirche in Dresden and the Ludwigskirche in Saarbrücken.
