The Schöppinger Ridge is the northern mountain spur of the Baumberge hills in the Munsterland districts of Coesfeld ( Rosendahl ), Borken ( Schöppingen ) and Steinfurt ( Horstmar and Laer ). It reaches the Schöppinger Berg in its north, on the border of the last-mentioned districts or the municipality of Schöppingen in the west to the town of Horstmar in the east, 158  m .

Like the Baumberge, the Schöppinger Ridge is a natural part of the Burgsteinfurter Land in the main unit of the Kernmünsterland .

Natural allocation

The Schöppinger Ridge is naturally allocated as follows:

Location and limits

The southern junction of the Schöppinger Ridge to the Baumberge runs from Rosendahl- Höpingen (Coesfeld district) to the southeast, where the 120  m line is briefly undercut for the first time.

The ridge runs in a northerly direction and touches Laer- Holthausen and Laer (Steinfurt district) with its eastern slope . To the west of Laers, the ridge , which flattens out to just over 100  m , turns to the northwest.

After the eastern slope has reached Horstmar (Steinfurt district), it rises significantly and flows into the spacious over 140  m high, maximum 157.6  m summit plateau of the Schöppinger Berg , on whose western slope Schöppingen (Borken district) lies, while on the north- western slope Horstmar - lies empty . The Kernmünsterland ends here at the same time and merges into the Westmünsterland .

Rivers

The ridge is flanked to the west by the Vechte and to the east by the Steinfurter Aa , which only unite significantly further north. The very short brooks that arise at the back flow into this.

To the west, beyond the Steinfurter Aa, lies the parallel, but significantly flatter Altenberger Ridge , to the east of the Vechte is the more flat, wavy Osterwick hill country .
