The Old Danish Pointing Dog is a Danish dog breed recognized by the FCI ( No. 281, Gr. 7, Sec. 1.1 ) .
Origin and history
It was bred out of the Bloodhound in Denmark in the 18th century . In the 20th century, breeding almost came to a standstill. But after the Second World War , breeders were found who saved this breed from extinction. In Denmark he is now a popular sport dog in the field of search and retrieval. He is also used as a service dog in the field of explosives dogs and drug searches. This breed of dog is not very common outside of its homeland.
description
The Old Danish Pointing Dog is up to 60 cm medium-sized and up to 35 kg heavy dog - bitches are much lighter with 26 kg to 31 kg and also smaller than males with 30 to 35 kg. The fur is dense, short and strong. The coat color is white with brown patches or brown spots; a dark chestnut brown is preferred in breeding. The breed has medium-sized lop-eared ears typical for hunting dogs, which are a legacy of the Bloodhound.
Essence
The Old Danish Pointing Dog hunts a little slower than z. B. the English pointer , whereby he does not bring in unnecessary restlessness when hunting. He is always in contact with the hunter. When hunting, it can not only be used as a detection and pointing dog, but also as a welding dog because of its excellent nose performance .
use
The Old Danish Pointing Dog is originally a hunting dog , but is also used as a companion dog, drug and explosives detection dog .
