Old castle

The stables of a Slavic hill fort, known as the Old Castle , are located in the Blüchersches Bruch and Mittelplan nature reserve on the Kölpinsee, approx. 2.5 km northeast of Göhren-Lebbin in the Mecklenburg Lake District . From Göhren-Lebbin, the extension of the road to the castle wall leadsdirectly to the plant. This circular fortification with a diameter of 160 meters has an approximately 1.8 meter high wall, which is preceded by a 3 meter and 0.5 meter deep trench. The moat is covered in places by the modern routing. In total, the wall encloses an area of around 8500 square meters. It is assumed that the wall used to consist of a wood and earth construction with a palisade top.

The wall was originally located on a headland between shallow lakes. Due to the construction of the Müritz-Elde waterway , the water level of the Kölpinsee fell by around 1.5 meters between 1798 and 1837. Numerous shallow lakes fell dry in the lowland adjacent to the south. As a result, the land surrounding the wall was drained.

The facility itself has not yet been explored, but is attributed to the Slavic settlement. The time of origin is accordingly unknown. It is believed that the old castle was a refuge . The extent to which there was a connection to the nearby Wallburg Kleiner Eschhorst is also unknown.
