Old fire station (Saarbrücken)
The old fire station is a venue of the Saarland State Theater in Saarbrücken - St. Johann . Before that, it was used as a gym with a fire station for the volunteer fire brigade . The building is under protection as an individual monument.
history
The building was built from 1896 to 1897 according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Franz as a municipal gym with a fire station on the ground floor. The gym was on the first floor and served the St. Johann gymnastics association . In 1982 the gymnasium became the second largest theater stage in the Saarland State Theater with 240 seats. Mainly used for acting, ballet, concerts and readings are also held.
