Old Klaus (Schleiz)

Alte Klaus was a chapel near Oberböhmsdorf zu Schleiz in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia and is now desolate.

Alte Klaus is located in the Schleiz forest about 3 km east of Oberböhmersdorf and not far north of the federal road 282 .

history

The chapel was donated in 1399. The chapel included apartments for clergymen and lay brothers. It can therefore be assumed that it was a real hermitage . The church lasted until the Reformation and then fell into disrepair. Count Heinrich XII. From the house of Reuss-Schleiz (1716–1784), however, a summer chapel was built in the same place. This also no longer exists. Today the desert is covered with forests. Only the field name Alte Klaus still reminds us.
