Old Mill

The old mill is a former mill building in post construction from the 18th century . It is located at Alikonerstrasse 6 in Auw in the canton of Aargau and is a cultural asset of national importance .

The mill on the Fuchsbach was built in 1766 and probably replaced a smaller previous building. Around 1830 and 1870 the eaves facades and the east facade received the single windows customary at the time. In addition, the difference between the planks and the stud frame was compensated for on the upper floors. Around 1900, the southern gable facade was also equipped with individual windows, and the southern eaves bower was torn down at the same time. The latter was restored in 2002 as part of a restoration, following the example of the arbor on the north side.

The building was built in the traditional rural construction of the Freiamt . It has a steep gable roof with a crooked hip and three adhesive roofs . Typical of this type of building are the eaves-sided arbors that enclose and enclose the upper floors. The basement floor with the high-lying windows is noticeably elevated, the granite portal is decorated with the miller's coat of arms and the year 1766. Today there is an office and two apartments in the building.
