An adhesive roof is a protective roof common to the region above the windows along the gable front of a building, usually a farmhouse . In the case of multi-storey buildings, several adhesive roofs can be attached one above the other.

function

The undercut adhesive roofs serve to protect the windows from precipitation.

Occurrence

Adhesive roofs are widespread in the Alemannic region along the rainy northern Alpine region, from central Switzerland to St. Gallic-Appenzell foothills to the Allgäu (including Bregenz and Lindau ). They are also typical at the Bregenzerwald Landammannhaus .

construction

Although adhesive roofs and canopies look similar from the outside, they differ in terms of construction. While the canopy is formed from protruding beams of the wall construction, the adhesive roof consists of a separate triangular construction. This is attached to the house wall with a long wooden splint . In the case of unpaneled (German: unpaneled ) rooms, the head of the cotter pin inserted through the block wall remains visible on the inside of the room. The securing wedge can be seen on the outside.

To the west of the Töss , the glued roof is mostly unsheathed and covered with tiles , while east of the Töss, for example in the canton of Appenzell , the soffit is mostly covered and covered with shingles .
