Old weights and measures (Sweden)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Sweden , the first uniform system of measures and weights was introduced by law in 1665. Before that there were different local variants. The system was slightly revised in 1735. In 1855 the system was decimalized to one foot by ten inches, but the metric system was introduced just 34 years later (1889). Up until the middle of the 19th century, counterfeiting was subject to the death penalty. King Charles IX in Norrköping 1604 determined the aln to be 59.38 cm based on the Rydaholmsalnen ; in this form the cubit was valid from 1605 to 1863.
