Old Forge

The old forge at Junkerhaus in Wellesweiler has been a Saarland monument since 2007 .

history

The forge was built in 1880 behind the Junkerhaus in Eisenbahnstrasse. Until the 1930s, the forge was for generations of forging used. In particular horses were hoisted and small pieces of iron were made. In Wellesweiler, the smithy was also one of the central meeting places in the village.

The forge is a solitary building and is the “only example of this construction task from the 19th century that has largely survived unchanged” in the Saarland eV bought and renovated with grants from the Aleksandra Foundation for the promotion of Westrich historical research. The opening took place on September 12, 2010 after four years of construction on the Open Monument Day . Further renovation work then had to be carried out. The exposed masonry had to be plastered to protect the interior from moisture. The forge now contains a complete set of historical furnishings and is opened to the public on special occasions.

The smithy was added to the sub-monuments list of the Neunkirchen district in 2007.
