The old school in Heinzenberg is a cultural monument under monument protection .

School history

The children from Heinzenberg originally went to school in Grävenwiesbach, six kilometers away . In 1661, Heinzenberg was the first village in the Grävenwiesbach parish to receive sovereign permission from Count Walrad von Nassau-Usingen to maintain its own school. The residents of Heinzenberg had made a request to the Count's pastor and school supervisor Lorentzen, saying that the way to school was too far and too dangerous. According to an old school chronicle, wolves attacked it several times, killing two children. Heinzenberg had to continue to pay school fees to Grävenwiesbach.

From November 5, 1661, classes took place in the teacher's apartment. The first teacher was Hans Conrad Brohm, who died on April 5, 1663. The second teacher, Bastian Weybell, lived in Winden and also taught there. In 1668 19 students from Heinzenberg were counted. From 1676 the Heinzenberger Niklaß Sorg was a teacher in Heinzenberg for 40 years. From 1702 classes took place in the town hall and around 1800 in the house at Usinger Straße 4. From the beginning there was a school community with winds (1661–1969), which also included the Stockheim side of Laubach (1685–1783) and Mönstadt (1685–1889). Sorg's successor was Johann Valentin Schlott, who was schoolmaster from 1717 to 1759. His son Johann Nikolaus Schlott taught until his death in 1797. Friedrich Wilhelm Schlott, who was only 17 years old, was appointed as the new teacher. The school building, inaugurated on November 17, 1827, contained a teacher's apartment and classrooms. From 1880 Philipp Ott was a teacher in Heinzenberg. He initially had 70 children to teach. With the new school building in Mönstadt in 1889 and the departure of the Mönstadt children, there were still 40 to 45 children from Heinzenberg and Winden. From 1900 to 1933 his son Hugo Ott was a teacher.
