Old St. Laurentius Church (Rösenbeck)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Old St. Laurentius Church was a Catholic church in Rösenbeck .

The monks of the Bredelar monastery were enfeoffed with land and feudal people in Rösenbeck. On this ground, they built a simple Gothic church in the 13th century . It was consecrated to St. Lawrence .

The pastoral care was taken over by the priests and the monks. Several measurement foundations provided the financial resources. In 1716, Cologne visitors forbade the celebration of church services because the church building was completely run down until it was renovated. The last renovation took place in 1781. A wheelwright W. Baumann bought the dilapidated building in 1856; with the components still to be used, he expanded his workshop and house.

A chalice from 1610, an early baroque cross and a bell that were melted down during the First World War were preserved from the church's furnishings .

The new St. Laurentius Church was consecrated elsewhere in 1854.
