The new St. Laurentius Church is a Catholic church in Rösenbeck , a district of Brilon in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The first plans for the neo-Gothic church were made in 1848. An application for the new building was submitted to the Bishop of Paderborn around 1850. From the remnants of the nationalized foundations of the Bredelar monastery , 5,000 thalers were paid. Rösenbeck was previously part of the fiefdom of Bredelar. The permit from Paderborn was granted. On December 18, 1854, the church was consecrated by Landdechant Caspari and six priests on behalf of Bishop Drepper . In 1890 the sanctuary was shortened and the sacristy was moved behind the altar. The Marien Altar and the Sacred Heart Altar were donated in 1909. New bells were purchased in 1929. In 1948 the high altar, a crucifixion group with Mary and John, was purchased. A new organ was bought in 1949. The sanctuary was adapted in 1953 to the liturgy that was changed at the Second Vatican Council . The ship is 21 m long and 12 m wide, the interior height is 9 m, the roof ridge is 16 m high. The apse is 5 × 7 m. The tower has a basic size of 4 × 4 m, a height of 18 m, above it is an 11 m high helmet. The altar table faces the community. The structure is neo-Gothic. He originally comes from the church in Dortmund-Oespel. A mercy seat can be seen in the middle , manna and water on the left and the miracle of bread on the right. After a major renovation, the church reopened in December 1997.
