Franz Drepper

Johann Franz Drepper (born October 3, 1787 in Mellrich ; † November 5, 1855 in Paderborn ) was Bishop of Paderborn .

Life

Drepper studied philosophy and theology in Münster . He received on 9 December 1809, the ordination to deacon and on December 13 the same year the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Cologne . In 1811 he became a chaplain and teacher in Arnsberg . In 1817 he became a pastor in Mülheim . In 1819 he refused an appointment at the University of Bonn . Since 1825 Drepper was instead professor at the theological academy in Paderborn . Drepper had been a member of the cathedral chapter there since 1823, and in 1824 he was incardinated in the clergy of the Paderborn diocese . In 1843 he became cathedral priest before he was elected Bishop of Paderborn in 1845. The episcopal ordination received his Anton Ferdinand Holtgreven , Auxiliary Bishop in Paderborn. During the revolution of 1848 Drepper was a member of the Prussian National Assembly and appeared there as a spokesman for the Catholic clergy. He is buried in the Paderborn Cathedral in front of the high choir.
