Altenburg painter
The name Altenburg painter is used to describe a vase painter who is no longer known by name and who worked in the second half of the 6th century BC. Was probably the inventor of the fikellura style of Eastern Greek vase painting at the time of the orientalizing style .
The Altenburg painter was the first Milesian painter of the fikellura style who decorated his vases on the neck with an ornament of sickles. In addition, he was the first to depict his animals without recessed heads. In his more recent works, the artist also showed people in comos and symposium scenes . The painter was named after his name vase , which is in the Lindenau Museum Altenburg . Along with the runner painter, he is the most important representative of the fikellura painters.
