St. Pauli Stift residential complex for the elderly
The residential complex St. Pauli Stift in Bremen - Neustadt , St.-Pauli-Deich 1 / Friedrich-Ebert-Straße , is one of the most important buildings in Bremen .
history
The four- and seven-storey residential complex for the elderly was built in 1997 on the property of the old St. Pauli Church with 30 apartments for the elderly and shops on the ground floor according to plans by the architects Manfred Schomers and Rainer Schürmann (Bremen) for the St. Pauli-Stift association . The ensemble near the Kleiner Weser and the Kleiner Werdersee consists of four elements: the central “tower” with a sun terrace with a panoramic view, two four-story wing buildings and the inner arcades leading to the apartments with a four-story hall. The glass-roofed hall is a meeting point and venue for concerts, readings and joint activities.
In 2004 the house received the building owner's award from the BDA- Bremen.
Assisted living in the monastery is supported by the Bremen Sisterhood of the Red Cross through a wide range of services.
The old St. Pauli Church in Bremer Neustadt was a simple hall building with a turret from 1679/82, which was destroyed in 1944 during World War II.
The architecture guide of Bremen writes about the new building: “… a raised tower, which is an effective urban symbol. The result is a place that architecturally expresses the community of residents - perhaps with a little too much pathos ”.
