Old cemetery (Heilbronn-Sontheim)
The old cemetery in Heilbronn-Sontheim is a listed park.
history
The cemetery was laid out outside the village in 1559. It was expanded in the 19th century and abolished in 1909. The preserved cemetery cross is a foundation of the Teutonic Order Commander Franz Joseph von Reinach from 1710. The cemetery chapel was built in 1731 and in 1886 received a neo-Romanesque apse. After the cemetery was closed, the chapel was converted into a Sontheim war memorial in 1933 at the instigation of the manufacturer Ackermann . Remains of the old cemetery wall have been preserved on the west side of the cemetery. There are also some historical tombs such as that of the art mill owner Rahmer . The rest of the cemetery was transformed into a green area with a playground.
