history

The old cemetery in Sontheim was laid out in 1559. A cemetery chapel was built in 1731, and a neo-Romanesque apse was added to the south in 1886 .

After the cemetery was abandoned in 1909, the chapel was converted into a war memorial for those who died in the First World War in Sontheim in 1933 with funds from a foundation from the neighboring Ackermann twisting mill. Inside, boards were placed with the names of the fallen, sorted by year, and the sculpture The Good Comrade by Ernst Yelin , Stuttgart, was placed.

In front of the building is a stone crucifix from 1710 with the donor coat of arms of the Teutonic Order Commander Franz Joseph von Reinach.

The former chapel is still the destination of processions on Corpus Christi .
