Ernst Yelin

Ernst Yelin (born March 5, 1900 in Stuttgart ; † 1991 ibid) was a German sculptor .

Yelin came from a Stuttgart artist family. His father was the church painter Rudolf Yelin the Elder (1864–1940), his brother the glass painter Rudolf Yelin the Younger (1902–1991).

Ernst Yelin attended the Stuttgart School of Applied Arts and from 1922 to 1927 the Stuttgart Art Academy under Ludwig Habich . Around 1922, during the inflation , he worked as a creator of portrait plaques. After graduating from the academy, he worked in his father's company and created tombs, garden figures and war memorials for private and public assignments, specializing in particular in relief sculptures .

His first major commissions in 1926 included the restoration of the Nikolauskapelle in Calw together with his brother Rudolf . By winning competitions, he received orders for the war memorial in Sontheim and the war memorials in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt and Metzingen , as well as soldier paintings at the barracks in Reutlingen and numerous fountains and sculptures for public spaces. In addition to these large-format works, he has also dealt with erotic small sculptures, around 40 of which are in the collection of the Kunstverein Bonn.
