Old cemetery (Kronberg)
The old cemetery in Kronberg im Taunus is a park . It is a listed building .
history
It is not known since when the old cemetery was used as a cemetery . While cemeteries used to be typically located next to the church as a churchyard , the old cemetery is located well outside the city walls and near the former high court . It may have originated as a plague cemetery or a Schindanger .
The last burial took place in 1884. Since then, the Kronberg im Taunus cemetery has been used for funerals.
In 1896 a strip of the cemetery was used to expand Hartmuthstrasse. The graves there were cleared. These included the graves of the pomologist Johann Ludwig Christ and the founder of the Kronthals , Dr. Ferdinand Küster . The tombstones were draped around the oldest tomb in 1896. Today these tombstones have been cleared and are kept in the museum .
Grave of Kaspar II
The grave of Kaspar II von Cronberg is the oldest grave in the former cemetery and, according to the inscription, dates from 1573. The memorial made of red sandstone shows the knight praying in front of a crucifix .
