Kaunas old port

The old port of Kaunas ( lit.Kauno senasis uostas ; port Žemoji Freda , lit.Žemosios Fredos uostas ) was an inland port in the second largest Lithuanian city ​​of Kaunas . The port is located in the Žemoji Freda district , on the left (western) bank of the Nemunas River .

history

In 1970 a cargo port was built in Žemoji Freda, in what was then Soviet Lithuania . During the season it was possible to unload up to 1.5 million tons of cargo . The port was adapted to the river seagoing vessels . On July 4th 1995 the private company UAB "Nemuno laivininkystė" was founded. The cargo port was privatized. From 1996 the Nemunas cargo began to decline and port activity was practically stopped. In 2007 there was no freight.
