The Jewish cemetery on Hugostraße is a Jewish cemetery in the former town of Barmen , which has been a district of Wuppertal ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) since its incorporation in 1929/30 . It is located south of the Barmer Nordpark on Hugostraße.

history

Jews were only able to settle in Barmen under Napoleonic rule. The synagogue community was established in 1894 when the Elberfeld community split off . The size was 10 in 1812, 16 in 1818, 312 in 1885 and around 730 in 1932. The Jews of Barmen first attended the services in Elberfeld, Schwelm and Wichlinghausen . From 1886 church services were held in Barmen and in 1897 a synagogue was inaugurated, which was destroyed by arson in 1938.

The Jewish cemetery on Hugostraße in Barmen was occupied from 1895 to 1963 and is still preserved today.
