Alter 8 was a British techno band from the early 1990s formed by Mark Archer and Chris Peat , which emerged from the Nexus 21 project founded in 1989 . They were considered icons of the early rave and hardcore scenes in Great Britain . Mark Archer was also at other music technically similar projects such as Bizarre Inc. involved.

Through their music videos and live performances, they established the typical rave outfit of the time with protective suits and dust masks that they rubbed in with Wick Vaporub to freshen the breath and intensify the effects of ecstasy . During live performances as well as in their music videos, the two always made sure that their face remained unrecognizable.

With the releases Activ-8 and Evapor-8 , Altern 8 entered the top 10 in England in 1992, but their first known release was Infiltr-8 202 from 1991.

Fans with aging-8 respirators

The uproars they used, such as Top one, nice one - get sorted! Achieved cult status in the rave scene . in Activ-8 and This is the music you've all been waiting for - this is the sound of Altern 8 ! in Evapor 8 .

The other single releases Hypnotic St8 and Brutal8e from their album Full on - Mask Hysteria could not quite follow the success of the first three tracks.

They were often compared with the then equally successful act The KLF . Similar well-known projects / groups from this time are Sy-Kick , Dream Frequency or Praga Khan .

In 1993, Age 8 broke up. It is claimed that the two never saw each other afterwards. While Mark Archer still appears in various clubs as a DJ and is involved in various projects, Chris Peat devotes himself to his PC shop near Stratford-upon-Avon.

From the mid-2000s, the winning song of the talent show The X Factor regularly reached number one in the charts during Christmas week, which is why initiatives were repeatedly started on the Internet to bring other songs to the top during the best-selling week of the year. 2013 tried a fan, the biggest hit of Altern 8 via Facebook to make such candidates Activ 8 but reached only place 33rd
