Old Town Hall Urfahr

The old town hall Urfahr is located at Rudolfstraße 18 in Linz and, with its Art Nouveau facade, is one of the most architecturally remarkable buildings in the Urfahr district of Linz .

The listed building was built in 1849 and was initially used as a district court and municipal administration building.

In the years 1911 to 1913 it was converted into the town hall by the architect Julius Schulte , whereby the current Art Nouveau facade was created. After the First World War, Urfahr near Linz was incorporated and from then on the building was used for various offices and public institutions: in the First Republic it served the so-called rental office and housing welfare office, after the Second World War it only housed a branch of the city library and for a while the fire department administration and finally the welfare office.

The building, which was then unused for eight years, was used by today's building management of the City of Linz from February 1993 after a renovation of 24 million Schilling. In 2005 and 2006 the building was completely renovated, rebuilt and provided with an elevator and now houses the child and youth service of the city of Linz.

The street was originally called Neue Ottensheimer Straße, from 1875 Rudolfstraße (after the Crown Prince Archduke Rudolf ), became Karl-Marx-Straße in 1921 after the German philosopher and politician Karl Marx and was finally called Rudolfstraße again from 1934.
