The old castle Könitz is a castle in the district of Könitz in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt in Thuringia .

location

The castle site is located in the uppermost part of the Kees valley, southeast of the village, next to a spring pond, about 25 meters below the state road 1105 - known in the Middle Ages as Hohen Straße , which passes just south. The surrounding area is heavily shaped by the old mining (Pingenfelder). Finds point to a high to late medieval system of a tower hill castle (Motte).
